Advancing healthcare
AVOLA is a multidisciplinary, independentand politically active network of professionals in healthcare and related disciplines. Amongst other topics, we are interested in oral health as the gateway to the human body, and the microbiome as the interface to its environment. We choose to work with partners who help leveraging our actions and increase our impact. We promote targeted translation from bench to community in order to create value to society.
Empowering health through education
AVOLA provides multichannel evidence-based information and education on disease prevention and health promotion. Thereby empowering people to increase control over their health through health literacy efforts and multisectoral action, in order to amplify healthy ways of life. As a result of our continuous efforts, healthcare costs will be reduced, and people live a healthier and happier life.
Joining forces
The challenge that the burden of oral disease presents is immense and will not be met effectively by the dental profession continuing to work in a dental silo! It demands closer collaboration with health professionals, active engagement with civil society, and strong leadership.
Leadership
AVOLA's Board of Directors is made up of Fellows from various disciplines and countries. They volunteer their time and expertise towards defining and achieving the goals of AVOLA. The Board meets three to four times a year in order to manage operational tasks and it reports once a year to the Annual General Meeting.

Hall of Honors
Over the last decades, the tendencies of oral selfcare and prevention have been shaped and influenced by many dedicated individuals. The AVOLA Hall of Honors pays tribute to a number of these individuals, who have made significant contributions to the field.
Ueli Breitschmied
“In my world, oral health makes a valuable contribution to the well-being of the human body.”
Ueli Breitschmid lives a mission: better health for you through prevention. And it starts in the mouth! Oral health is critical to systemic health and well-being. “I imagine a healthy and happy world. Informed physicians, passionate dental professionals and enlightened consumers all of whom are aware of attractive, effective and safe homecare products ensuring sustainable oral health. In my world, oral health makes a valuable contribution to the well-being of the human body.”
MUDr. Jiří Sedelmayer
“There are only very few things, that you cannot influence with a toothbrush.”
The key moment in the development of CURADEN was, when its owner Ueli Breitschmid met MUDr.* Jiří Sedelmayer, who eventually became a mentor. The two were linked by a deep friendship and a common understanding of the topics of prophylaxis, dental and oral hygiene. The claim “health begins in the mouth” became the guiding principle of the iTOP prevention program developed by Dr Sedelmayer, by which CURADEN promotes effective tooth brushing applying appropriate techniques and products used by educated dental professionals, worldwide. As a pioneer, J. Sedelmayer has developed three criteria to determine the quality of oral hygiene techniques and products: effectiveness, acceptance and non-traumatic use. *MUDr. (Czech): Medicinae Universae Doctor.
AVOLA Junior Committee
In 2025, it is planned that we start first activities with the AVOLA Junior Committee. The basic idea is to offer young professionals a voice within the association, and to provide a platform enabling them to implement fresh ideas and share new perspectives, in order to raise the profile of emerging talent and ensure AVOLA represents all age groups who can help us to put our mission into reality. If you are interested to join, please write to: msc@avola.network.
Key Partner
AVOLA enjoys a unique relationship with Curaden AG, a global leader in oral selfcare. For over half a century, the company has been known for oral care products and solutions – beginning with prevention before any damage has occurred in the oral cavity. “Better health for you” is the concept at the heart of everything the company does. This belief highlights the importance of oral health and its direct relationship to systemic health.
